Clinical Training

The clinical aspect of the program includes experience in:

  1. Restorative dentistry
  2. Interceptive, preventive and limited treatment orthodontics
  3. Dentistry for patients with disabilities
  4. Dental and craniofacial anomalies
  5. Genetic abnormalities
  6. Behavior management, including sedation
  7. Medically compromised patients
  8. Trauma management
  9. Hospital dentistry

Clinical experience is obtained in facilities located at the School of Dentistry, Pediatric Clinic and predoctoral dental clinic at UCSF School of Dentistry. This clinic contains supplies and equipment for comprehensive care of pediatric patients.

Clinical Training also occurs at UCSF Hospital and Children's Hospital Oakland. Dental care for children with physical, emotional, mental, and genetic disorders frequently requires a specialized approach in a hospital setting. This is readily available at the associated facilities of UCSF Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital Medical Center, Oakland.

Dental care is integrated with all appropriate medical specialties and the patients of all these facilities provide the student with an excellent exposure to challenging clinical problems. Over the last year, there have been approximately 7,000 patient visits to UCSF Pediatric Dentistry Clinics, Pediatric Hospital OR and the Tenderloin Community Clinic.
